Southern Food!

On a recent trip to Nashville, TN the fam and I discovered Southern food for the first time. It was delightful!

How did this come about? Join me on the journey, will you?

First, let's start by making a side dish. Southern green beans. Sauté bacon (cut into strips) and onion.

See these green beans? Yeah, I used frozen. Yeah.

Add them to the pot with some water...

...And a little salt... Are you digging the action shots? I sure am!

Cover the pot and put it on low for a while and forget about it. Well, not completely. You'll want to stir it every once in a while.

Now, make a drink because oddly enough the chicken has not thawed all the way.

Pour in some good ol' Captain Morgan.

See that Sprite Zero behind the glasses? Yeah, pour some of that in as well. Now take some grenadine and add just a touch - I mean it, just a touch - to the glasses.

Pour some oil into the deep fryer. It's on "max" oil.

Ingredients:
Chicken, cut up
Flour
Johnny's Seasoning Salt
Pepper
Buttermilk
Salt

Prep everything. Dry ingredients in a ziploc bag and buttermilk in a pie plate. Shake the chicken in a bag, dip it in the buttermilk, and then put it back in the ziploc bags.

See? All nice and coated.

The oil hasn't heated up yet so it's time to make another drink!

Put the chicken pieces into the fryer.

Lower it down and close the lid. See the steam rising up?

Hey! The green beans are done!

Now it is time to make the potato salad.

There. All done!

After about 14 minutes, lift the chicken out and see how it's doing. Looks done to me!

Lay it on a rack to drain.

Add some more into the fryer.

These legs are pure sex!

See? Mmmmmmmmmm.....

The kids were able to eat but I got a little bored so I took a photo of the side of my refrigerator.

All of the kids loved the chicken. Homemade fried chicken FTW!
